Today: two individuals who are attending a function together, purpose is for entertainment, not just choosing a life partner. Hanging out or hooking up: can be a source of pressure. Skipper and nass (1968) identified four functions of dating. Single vs. relationship status: gaining status, socialization, recreation, mate selection. Sex de-linked from marriage and family: 4 general premarital sexual standards. Personal introductions: between 1/3 to 1/2 or all dating relationships begin this way.
