Building to a boil rather than starting off steaming - future security was more important than passion. Find someone who was good enough and fall in love with them later. By the 1980"s 91% of women and 86% of men say they would not marry someone without feeling romantic love (allgeier & wiederman, 1991) Advancement of modern technology changed everything- did not need as many kids to help with work. North americans consider romance as a reason to marry an unprecedented degree (hatfield and rapson, 2008)
