For some, strain leads to mid-life crisis : has he achieved his dreams, it"s actually a myth. Women"s relationship with family is often different than men"s: more intimately associated with nurturing and childrearing tasks. Most women in this age range are at work. Women"s experience of aging is different than men"s: includes the experience of menopause, women considered old before men. Couples review their marriages and work out new arrangements. May lead to an increase in sex: more time, more freedom, more privacy, no fear of pregnancy. The relationship with their children changes as the children move from adolescence into young adulthood.
