Four stages of daing: casual daing, steady, daing engagement and marriage. 1960s to present: more freedom for women, men used to be iniiators- now women have more direct role, less formal, use of technology, having fun, and meeing new people. Today: 2 individuals who are atending a funcion together. Purpose is for entertainment, not just choosing a life partner (hang out/hook up) Can be source of pressure (connected to social status, single vs. relaionship status. Classiied ads: women as sex objects, men as success objects, short, Introducion services: video daing, marriage bureau, mail order. Social factors inluencing online daing in canada: increased single person households, ime pressure of careers, increased mobility of single people, workplace not ideal for meeing partners.
