Adolescents embrace gender stereotypes more than children. Conformity to gender roles influenced by family socialization pressures. Socializing boys and girls according to different expectations. More pronounced in adolescence i. e. parents, peers, teachers. Past experiences influence how parents and teachers socialize next generation. Fashion, beauty, health , physical appearance accounts for 50% of content i. e. fashion magazines. Gender is a fundamental way of organizing ideas about the world. Age 3: understand themselves as either male or female. Age 4-5: identify things as gender appropriate. Age 6-10: perceptions of gender become less rigid. Age 12-16: perceptions of gender become more rigid. Gender is major schema from early childhood onward.
