Common themes: gender diferences, diferences between public and private educaion, issues with overcrowding, underfunding, lack of cultural relevance, who goes and who doesn"t go is oten decided at birth. Large schools: diverse courses and extracurricular aciviies, can be alienaing. Small schools: less diversity in extracurricular aciviies, more paricipaion. Scholars do not agree about class size: direct negaive relaion between class size and academic performance, typical variaion has litle impact on achievement. Small class size is preferable for students with academic diiculies. Quality of the interacions of teachers and students: how teachers interact with students, what expectaions and standards they have, what methods are used. Opimum school climate: supporive and dedicated teachers, firm but fair discipline, high expectaions for student performance and conduct.
