Definition: systematically collecting data to produce knowledge. Authority: the expert says it"s true so it must be true. i. e. teacher. Just because somebody claims to be an expert doesn"t mean they are. It"s always been this way so it must be true and we will carry on this way i. e. hot toddies for colds. Sometimes the media doesn"t always reflect reality i. e. dangerous tv shows, females doing laundry in tv shows. Sometimes use clich s (problem is clich s contradict) i. e. opposites attract vs. birds of a feather flock together. 2 heads are better than 1 vs. too many cooks in the kitchen. Personal experience: i believe it"s true because i experience it, and because it happened to me, it must be true. Social science challenge more, because not using a test tube . Contestable because we tend to research things that are more dear to our hearts . Title: briefly explains what study is about.
