Denudation: any process that wears away/rearranges landforms. Hard material + recent uplift = high relief mountains. Soft rock + tectonically inactive for long time = low relief/low elevation. Gradation processes include: weathering: rocks disintegrate or dissolve in place, mass movements: unit movements of materials propelled by gravity, erosion: removal of surface material by wind, water, glaciers, transportation of materials, deposition: transported sediments are laid down. Each process acts simultaneously or sequentially to shape landscapes. Effect of gradation reduce surface elevation to base level: ultimate base level = sea level (gradation no longer a significant process. All of the changes that result from exposure of rock to the atmosphere. Either disintegrate rock into mineral or dissolve into water. No weathering = no soil, plants, people very small changes, very gradual hidden from view direct physical measurement is hard find weathering operating in combination/sequence some processes are precursors to others. Weathering is affected by: character of bedrock, slope orientation, vegetation, climate.
