GEOG 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Denudation, Aggradation, Acid Rain
Document Summary
Weathering the first step necessary for denudation of the landscape. Acts to smooth out the earths rough surfaces. Weather process by which rocks disintegrate or decompose in place. Erosion removal of weathered material by wind, water, glaciers. Mass movement removal of weathered material by gravity. Deposition of materials process by which transported sediments are laid. Each of these processes act simultaneously or sequentially to shape the down (aggradation) landscape around us. The effect of gradation is to reduce the surface elevation to base level. The lowest level to which erosion can occur. Temporary base levels lakes, rivers, human created dams. Weathering is a general term describing all of the changes that result from the exposure of rock to the atmosphere. Weathering processes either disintegrate rock physically into mineral particles or decompose them chemically. Rocks and minerals are formed at equilibrium with the environment in which they are created.
