Gordon riots part of the movement of anti-catholicism. Did it provide a new focus; it was the midwife of class( harold perkins), it gave birth to class. Methodism was a english phenomenon and was started in the church of england, had a large impact in north america. 18th centurychruch of england had great power, had people in every single latter. Out of oxford emerged a movement, may 1738 a man named john wesley, he experienced a dramatic conversion from christ, only people who had same experience were going to survive. His goal was to open up hearts so god could reach them, he thought god was more than just rules but a concerned figure. They were remarkabley adapted to the industrializing society of england(wesley), Methodism is much more flexible, preachers do not have to be licenced preachers, doing all of this within the church of england.
