Spartan mothers and wives were very important in maintaining the order in sparta. Gorgo was leonadis wife where historians suggest she was the brains behind the operation in all respects to leonadis actions. Plutarch records a long list of sayings which women of sparta said; a lot of them sayings about war and honour: damatria is where a spartan mother killed her son due to the fact he dishonoured sparta in war. Role of young girls were shocking to the ancient greeks, they were fed and allowed to drink a fair amount aswell exercising in the nude and were tanned. The bridesmaids would abduct the bride and would be dragged away having her head shaved, and dressed like a man waiting for her groom whom after drinking would come to have sex for her. Common for spartan men to have their friends produce children with their wives. Athens can date itself back to the mycenaean period.
