Bay"a (oath of allegiance) given to yazid after muawiya chooses him. Major resistance came from medina, particularly from prophet"s descendants (ali"s family), of the inherited caliphate. They would put a verse on the coin against jesus as god. The caliph would have to build things to demonstrate political and spiritual and military power. Abdalmalik (685-705) was father of four sons, all of who were caliphs, and who extended.
