Document Summary

Week 8 followers, the other side of the coin. Styles of followership: critical thinking vs uncritical thinking. Critical thinking is thinking independently and being mindful of the effects of one"s own and other people"s behaviour on achieving the organization"s vision: aware of significance of their actions and actions of others. Uncritical thinking is failing to consider possibilities beyond what one is told; accepting the leader"s ideas without thinking: doesn"t contribute to the cultivation of organization, active vs passive behaviour. Active individuals participate fully in the organization and engage in behaviour that is beyond the job, demonstrating a sense of ownership and initiating problem solving and decision making. Passive individuals need constant supervision and prodding; does nothing that is not required and avoids added responsibility. The alienated follower is passive, independent and a critical thinker; they are capable and think independently, but don"t participate in developing solutions to problems.
