HROB 2010 Lecture 5: Tuesday January 26- Situational Approach
Document Summary
Tuesday january 26, 2016- chapter 5: situaional approach. The premise of the theory is that diferent situaions demand diferent kinds of leadership. From this perspecive, to be an efecive leader requires that a person adapt his or her style to the demands of diferent situaions (hersey and blanchard,1969a) The situaional approach stresses that leadership is composed of both a direcive and a supporive dimension, and that each has to be applied appropriately in a given situaion. To determine what is needed in a paricular situaion, a leader must evaluate her or his followers and assess how competent and commited they are to perform a given goal. Based on the assumpion that followers skills and moivaion vary over ime, situaional leadership suggests that leaders should change the degree to which they are direcive or supporive to meet the changing needs of followers.
