History is the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon. Architectural legacy: connection between ancient and modern forms, ability to link cultures through time and space (notes) look at the link through time and space. Geographic context: peninsula in mediterranean, many small islands, rocky, rugged, mountainous, oriented toward the sea (notes) south half in nearly bisected by water from the mainland. Will mainly be looking at the classical period of greece. Not per say the history, but what came out of the era. (ie types of architecture) Dark ages: conquering of the mycenaean civilization, palatial centres are abandoned (notes) dark ages. Archaic period: greek polis or city state develops, monumental sculpture, stone temple architecture, civic buildings, clashes with the persian empire, athens takes control of the delian league (notes) archaic period. Lots of these city states ruled by tyrants, not constitutional authority .
