Folk rock: is the blending of british blues based rock and folk styled music, bob dylan was the first folk rock to move to electric instruments. He got booed off the stage for using them. Folk music fans didn"t like the rock music. The lyrics themselves are folky: range is small (same with all rock music, voice is out of sync with the music = so it grabs your ear, and your forced to listen to the music. Primacy of the lyrics: electronic instruments in song: organ and base guitar, the hammond organ - were around in the 1960"s and 1970"s. Is a very basic synthesizer, that was inexpensive for musicians. It doesn"t have a large variety of sounds: repetitive verses. The byrds: mature mainstream folk rock band. Two genres in the 1960"s for black artists: soul and motown pop/northern soul. Motown pop: motown records = berry gordy, he was a black business man.
