Synthesize it from a form of cholesterol in our skin (need uv light from the sun) People with darker skin: need 10 to 50 imes more sun exposure. People who live far from the equator: in edmonton alberta, people synthesize no vitamin d between october and may. Up to 40% of canadians have inadequate blood vitamin d levels during winter and/or spring.
