Joseph campbell was born in 1904 new york, and was professor/student of history, with a particular interest in the arthurian legends. While greek myths was not particularly his main course of study or interest, his contributions towards comparative mythology, including greek myths, in his work the hero"s journey is still considered unparalleled to this day. In his book, he describes similar characteristics found whilst analysing myths, dating from the begging of preserved literature to stories created in the modern day. The monomyth, or hero"s journey, are the fundamental steps of which hero"s that joseph. These steps of which the protagonist undergoes are what defines the character and what makes him a hero in the mind of the readers. The steps are designed to tap into the reader"s conscious on what he believes makes a hero, and exemplifies the steps into an almost surreal process, making a thrilling adventure.
