The three types of parties in canada: elite parties (in the 19th century when political parties became popular, elite parties were the most common; these are parties that only include members of the political elite) Less democratic than the other forms because only a select few people could join the party: mass parties (very popular between 1880-1960; represented large social groups and had mass membership from all over the continent) As many people as possible would be recruited. Although these parties appealed to the masses, the ideologies within it were diluted by their need to accommodate diversity.
