Common law the rules developed by the courts and based on precedents. Civil law the law of ancient rome, private citizens, based on codified principles rather than on precedents. Religious law almost became a thing in ontario - if (cid:455)ou appl(cid:455) o(cid:374)e set of religious la(cid:449) it is(cid:374)"t fair because of how diverse canada is. Customary law applies to the first nations, very difficult to establish, many different types of communities different types of customary law. Common in asia and africa, not as common in north america. How all of the communities are going to establish their own customary law without interfereing with common or civil law. Federal court of canada taxation, patents, copyright and administration. Supreme court of canada nine justices appointed by the pm, highest court for civil, criminal and constitutional cases. Very few cases heard in this court. Established in 1875: not significant until 1949. Jcpc judicial committee of the privy council before 1949.
