Canada - a brief history regionalism and federalism - a political. Constitution act 1791: lower vs upper canada. Concept of responsible government got established with durham report. 1867: tension continued but rather than upper and lower canada, it started being east and west. 1931: act of parliament (statue of westminister) - gave us our own statue. Government general has more of a symbolic role. Regionalism - western alienation (the national policy) Sectionalism feels territorial connection, feel connected to their province. So western alienation is an example of sectionalism. Second type of regionalism is separatism. eg. quebec. Also british columbia and alberta wants to separate in more political way. It is a connection to a country and the culture of the country. Its in more comprehensive level than the other two. A lot of immigrants feel more nationalistic pride. John macdonald policy: macdonald wanted to stop the american from occupying.
