POLS 1400 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Voluntary Sector, Proletariat, Bourgeoisie
Document Summary
Individual efforts such as in pairs or in families. Politics can be defined as the struggle for power and the management of conflict. When an output satisfies a particular demand it can create more or less confidence in the authorities. Satisfying a demand can create support for the governing party, the decision making process or for the country such as the official languages act. Conversely, it can create less confidence in the authorities and therefore less support such as the alienation of western canada in response to the national energy program. The political system is a dynamic, circular, never ending process. The authorities can impose their own priorities, react to demand and support, seek out public sentiment convert some demands into outputs and then respond to the inputs that result from the feedback of such outputs. Consensus of the legitimacy of the government allows people to abide by the authoritative decisions even when they disagree with them.
