POLS 3000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Class Conflict
Document Summary
Lecture 19: apartheid and the legacy of white rule iii. John saul: for all the change that has taken place in south africa there is still a large disparity between the rich and poor. He is a marxist and part of the critical paradigm. Believes the end of apartheid did not bring about prosperity to all south africans. The regime still oppresses the poor so it is not an economic apartheid instead of a racial one. Blacks are still as poor as they were during apartheid so why are there no protests anymore: economic distribution of wealth is what matters, not political power and so here nothing has changed. Apartheid is over yet so many problems from that time still exist today. There is an unequal distribution of land and low employment rates amongst blacks and so they remain poor. Apartheid was thus never about race but economic inequality that coincided with race.
