China has recently overtaken the united states and the european union as africa"s largest trading partner. China has essentially treated africa not as a continent in need of saving or lecturing, but as partners in a long-term business deal. - andrew kuo. The west today has the opportunity to renew its relationship with africa to emerge from a dark history that began with exploitative imperialism and has more recently been marked by patronizing parenting. Africa is being regarded as the last place left to grow food in the world. Other countries look to africa to grow food for them, but is this just a new form of colonialism. In many cases, it is other developing countries (saudi arabia, india, south korea, china) rather than western corporations, that are acquiring land in africa. It is sustainable unlike other resources like diamonds which once they are gone are gone for good.
