The most recent expression of the complex relationship between power and wealth is the link between political authority and the system of production and distribution of wealth known as the market economy. Since its inception the market economy has undergone profound transformations. This course is concerned with demonstrating why it is important to consider relationships between the political and economic domains. Political economy premise #2 (markets based off of political conflict) The second premise flies in the face of orthodoxy that the state and the market operate in contrasting realms.
