Naturalistic observation- recording behaviour in the environment without control or manipulation: ex- observing how people use vending machines there must be distance from you and the observers, no one should know of the study- may act different. Survey- a method of gathering information about many people"s thoughts/ behaviours through self- report: ex- telephone survey on the attitude of people working to make politicians. 2. correlational: primary goal is to predict when, ex- depression, is seen through low self- esteem, or vice versa. Purpose- to observe the association between 2 variables: e. g. , depression is associated with low self-esteem, often will use surveys, in this case to look for a co-relationship between two or more variables.
