Textbook chapter 1 (1-5: critical thinking the ability and willingness to ask questions, wonder, access claims, etc, strive for clarity, precision, accuracy, relevance, depth, breadth and logic. Instead it is used to generate new information later on: applied, knowledge intended to make an immediate impact, research that has a valuable, real world use to it. Research methods: examples of methods the magnificent seven, experimental design, the factor that determine a cause-and-effect relationship between variables. It uses an independent variable and observes its effect on a dependent variable. Indicate that both variables move in the same direction: ex: one variable increases so does the other and vice versa, negative. Indicates that as one variable increases, the other decreases. Experimental and control groups: experimental group - participants obtain the treatment, exposed to the independent variable, control group - do not get exposed to the independent variable, treated like the experimental.
