Document Summary
Psyc*1000 final exam material from the textbook (2/3 of this will make up the exam, because that makes sense ?) Aka cognition: all he mental activities associated with thinking, knowing, remembering, and communicating. An activity of cognition is forming concepts: a mental grouping of similar objects, events, ideas, or people. --> concepts simplify our thinking ex. They were anger give us much information with little cognitive effort. Form concepts by developing prototypes: a mental image or best example of a category. The more closely something matches our prototype of a concept, the more readily we recognize it as an example of the concept. Concepts speed and guide our thinking, but they don"t always make us wise. If peoples heart attack symptoms don"t match their heart attack prototype they may not seek help. We do this through trial and error for some problems and for others we use algorithms: step-by-step procedure that guarantees a solution.
