Le bon described three characteristics of crowds: anonymity- in crowds people are anonymous. There is no sense of individual characteristics: suggestibility- if people are not held responsible for what you do in crowd then they can be easily steered in one direction. If you suggest something, it is more likely that people would accept the idea without thinking about it logically: contagion- once you spread an idea in a crowd people would follow up. Le bon described crowd as source of power, as well. In crowd the id part of the ego is taking over. If you were going to suggest something to a crowd, then simplify the idea and present it because there is little logic in a crowd. Le bon who believes that the crowd makes an individual bad. Allport suggested that in crowd people reveal their true nature.
