6 views3 pages

Document Summary

How far something is in front of you. Important for perceptual motor coordination when to lift your foot, how high, when to extend, how far to reach for something, knowing when something is coming at you (when to duck), when driving and stopping/turning. Distal stimulation far / distance , seeing 3d things. Proximal stimulation close / proximity , projecting image (light falling on retina) is 2d: interaction between 3d world and 2d surface (retina, all we really know is the visual angle of the object on the retina (degrees) Dimensional ambiguity tells us two diferent things: the actual size of the object (big visual angle = big object) and how far away the object is (bigger visual angle = closer) You take certain cues and put them together some clues say things and others say something else. You use diferent techniques to igure out how far away an object is.
