Monoamine oxidase inhibitors: formerly use to treat depression; side effects. Side effects: interfere with cardiac function, in a few cases caused sudden death. Beta-blockers (e. g. propranolol): used for anxiety disorders, reduce peripheral aspects of anxiety (sympathetic activation), not anxiety per se (i. e. cns) It increases in cns activity of both dopamine and norepinephrine.
