PSYC 2650 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Peripheral Vision, Foveal
Document Summary
3 types selective, sustained, and divided (*we will not be focusing on sustained) Picking what information from your environment that you want to process and focus on, while ignoring other information. *prefer to focus on attention as more of an adjective* Shifting visual attention happens through overt eye movements. Foveal information processed deeper than peripheral information because we are choosing to look at it and focus on its details. Covert attention: shifting your attention without making it obvious to others. Ex; not moving our eyes maybe using peripheral vision. Attentional cues (arrows) can be used to conduct trials. The time between the cue appearing and the target appearing. Can focus on house while ignoring face and vice versa, even though they are the same overlapping picture. We as humans are not very good at it. The more things we do, the more our performance of each action decreases. Can get better at multitasking by practicing the individual tasks separately.
