Id primitive and dominant in infancy: drives all urges, attaining immediate gratification/pleasure, difficulty waiting for or delaying gratification, driven by pleasure principle wants what it wants right here and right now. Super ego internalizes values, morals: around age 5, the conscience, might have high standards in what we should be ding academically or how we should perform/act in social contexts, not necessarily reality-based. Psyc 2740 week 5: can be for law/social acceptability in school etc. But always having to reach a certain grade or always acting a certain way around friends = setting our own standards and therefore not necessarily reality based. Seeing somebody drop at the bar while in line for drinks.
