Motivation that stems from the work environment, external to the task & is usually applied by others. A theory of motivation that considers whether people"s motivation is autonomous or controlled. Intrinsic & extrinsic motivation are used to explain what motivates people & whether motivation is autonomous or controlled. Occurs when people are self-motivated by intrinsic factors. When motivation is autonomous, individuals are engaged in a task because they choose to be & their actions are internally regulated.
