Conflict happens: kin are sometimes close competitors (allocation of resources) Homicide and violence as negative assays of positive emotions. Theres obviously some killing of kin, but we need to control for opportunity / association. Blood kin are relatively immune, given there availability. Spouse and nonrelative killed the most (non-genetic relatives), parent child and other relative killed the least (genetic relative) Co-offenders 20% relatives, more likely to be kin. Victim offenders 6% relatives, more likely to be spouse. The cinderella effect: children who are being treated poorly because step child. Child abuse likely if there is a step parent in the house. Step children seen as baggage and when not related theyre just extra only a obstacle in the way for mating accesss to the parents. Avoid harming them too much (or too often) Situational predictions (eg. who did i grow up with) Predictions of the westermarck hupothesis (co-raised) (averse to mating together)
