After ww2 some people had lost everything and we in camps for displaced people with no where to go. They take people from camps to work in the textile factory. Ticket was metaphorical, people had to do manual labour to get into canada. Preference for english and dutch people movie was being sold to canadians. An emphasis or representation of white countries, they were the preferred immigrants. Assimilation, the immigrants assimilate to canadian culture including the language. Having them say what"s important and what"s not important. Class distinction: upper class people on a plane and lower class people on a boat b/c airline travel was very expensive. Boat would take 2 weeks, some countries didn"t have airports or money to rebuild. A boy saying where are all the indians? . The idea that canada only exist with the settler populations but not with the indians.
