Primary group a small group whose members share personal, lasting relationships. Secondary group a large and impersonal social group members pursue a specific goal. Instrumental leadership group leadership that focuses on the completion of tasks: expressive leadership group leadership that fo(cid:272)uses o(cid:374) the group"s (cid:449)ell (cid:271)eing. Three leadership styles: authoritarian leadership instrumental concerns, takes personal charge, demands, democratic leadership expressive and makes a point to include everyone, laissez-faire leadership the group functions more or less on their own. In-group social group toward which a member feels respect and loyalty. Reference group a social group that serves as a point of reference in evaluations/decisions. Out-group a social group towards which a person feels competition and opposition. Dyad a social group with two members (typically more social interaction) Triad a social group with three members (stable and capable)
