Social structure: any relatively stable pattern of social behaviour. A social position that a person holds. Status set: all the statuses held at one time (i. e. a teenage girl, a daughter to her parents, a sister to her brother, student, a goalie on her hockey team) Ascribed status: a social position a person receives at birth or involuntarily later in life (i. e. race, class, age group) Achieved status: a social position a person assumes voluntarily that reflects ability and effort (i. e. honour student, olympic athlete) Master status: a status that has special importance for social identity, often shaping a person"s entire life (i. e. occupation, recognizable family name, gender for women or in a negative sense like a disease) Role: behaviour expected of someone who holds a particular status.
