SOC 1500 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Arizona Transition Zone, Suicide Watch, Social Disorganization Theory
Document Summary
Problems can"t account for 1) circumstances surrounding the event, 2) changes in levels of crime overtime, 3) geographic distribution of crime. Social structures influence an individual (push towards or from) criminology, race, neighborhood, money or education. Theories, explanations for the way stuff works/social world impacts the individual. Men are more likely to kill themselves, maybe because biologically women are more attached to children but we don"t know. Men and women are socialized differently, so men hide their feelings and it builds up, and they kill themselves. People who are single are more likely to do it, then those who are married. Social integration: (how immersed are they in society?) Social regulation: (guide lines and rules for behavior) people need a good balance of regulation, enough structure but not completely regulated (if it is too strong or weak then there is a problem) They are to integrated into their community they think them killing themselves is for the greater good.
