Law abiding connection (bigger) the more likely to find it difficult to assimilate. Values in the institution are not the same as out in society. Greater allegiance to conventional attitudes and staff norms in: early stage of confinement (ie. first 6 months) late stage of confinement (ie. last 6 months) Explanation for u-shaped curve: distance from community: mid-sentence, early-sentence late-sentence more misconduct stressed, learning to conform stressed, having to conform to the social world.
