Document Summary

A chemical reaction that has a positive deltag is correctly described as endergonic. Molecule binds to the enzyme (positive or negative effect) Inorganic (such as a metal in ionic form) or organic. Organic cofactor is called a coenzyme eg. vitamins. Competitive inhibitor: binds to active site; substrate cannot bind (competitive inhibition) Non-competitive inhibitor: binds to an allosteric site, causes change in enzyme, substrate cannot bind (changes shape of active site) From inactive form to stabilized active form once one substrate molecules binds (substrate can activate enzyme by stabilizing it) Allosteric activator binds to allosteric regulatory site and they stabilize the enzyme. Regulation of enzyme activity: feedback inhibition the end product of a metabolic pathway shuts down the pathway. Prevents waste of chemical resources eg. starts with threonine ends with isoleucine. If cell is not using isoleucine it will start to build up.
