Document Summary

Nematodes passing through the area may be caught by fungal hyphae in their small loops and will be taken in as food. The fungal hyphae are very small and use osmotic pressure to keep their prey within their loops that they form. Various mushrooms have adapted to supplement their nitrogen intake by instead breaking down the cells of bacteria (nitrogen fixing), by using their hyphae to travel through the soil. Rotifer are organisms that will eat these little pegs and when they do they get caught and become stuck there on the hyphae. Then assimilative hyphae will grow into the rotifer and the fungi will use it for nutrients. There are many human impacts on the ecosystem and these have a ripple effect on all the organisms around us. Scientific study of the interactions between organisms and their environment. Temperature, light, nutrients (eg. minerals), wind, water: biotic.
