Arrows deliver plague to the greek camp at troy and, almost as a warning, first the dogs and herds are afflicted, and then apollo begins to cut down the men. Achilles pities the suffering greeks and calls an assembly of the army and its chiefs: he hopes that he can encourage a priest/seer to reveal what is happening. "no, it is not for the sake of some vow or hecatomb he blames us, but for the sake of his priest whom agamemnon dishonoured and would not give him back his daughter nor accept the ransom.
