Document Summary

They don"t want first nations people talking to each other. Party line security problems: other people could listen in. Only source for money was the indian agent. Hard to convince local aboriginals that organization was needed. Same as in camps in germany during war. Tried to convince the local first nations to become radicals and fight the system. The younger generations are asking the elders to support this radical behavior: hard to get the old people to be involved. Dangers and consequences: jail time, possibility of food being withheld and problems with the indian agent. The system was done in a western way: agendas, rules for meetings. It was hard to apply traditional ways into the methods of young people. Not an oral traditional way (very formal) Large number were illiterate and printed word was useless. Very difficult to get speakers into reserves as dia blocked access of radical indians .
