The psychodynamic perspective: personality and behaviour are shaped by powerful forces in consciousness, a great deal of which is hidden from us, there are no mistakes, and we have no control over ourselves. Id - a collection of basic biological drives, including those directed towards sex and aggression: fuelled by an energy called libido, operates according to the pleasure principle, there right from birth. Superego is too dominant - too afraid to speak. Id too dominant - over drinking, eating, speak our mind to much: become nail bitters to gum chewing, anal stage - 2-3 years, toilet training and control of bowel movements - hygiene, get competence and confidence. Id too much power - messy adults - anal expulsive. Id too much power - too much reliable one other people. Superego too much power - too shy to make relationships. Instead they focus on work and devaluing and subjugating women.
