Document Summary
Memory is the collection of several systems that store information in different forms for differing amounts of time. Sensory memory is a memory store that accurately holds perceptual information for a very brief amount of time. If the difference is not the focus of attention, people generally fail to notice the change. Short-term memory (stm) is a memory that stores with limited capacity and duration (approx. These larger units are referred to chunks: experience and expertise plays a role in our ability to chunk large amounts. Visuospatial sketchpad: is a storage component of working memory that maintains visual images and spatial layouts in a visuospatial code. It engages in portions of the brain related to perception of vision and space and does not affect memory for sounds. In between the two processes is the concept known as storage, the time and manner in which information is retained between encoding and retrieval.
