In this category of mental disorders, the patterns of maladaptive behaviour, emotional reactions, or patterns of thinking are very resistant to change. Also the behaviour patterns that de ne these disorders are: quite rare within one"s culture. 2. they are maladaptive (in that they disrupt the individual"s or other people"s safety or well- being) There are 10 personality disorders listed in the dsm, organized into 3 broader categories: cluster a personality disorders - statistically unusual and problematic behaviour patterns. Include paranoid, schizoid, and schizotypal personality disorders: cluster b personality disorders - unpredictable and unusual emotional reactions and emotion-related behaviour patterns. Include antisocial, borderline, histrionic, and narcissistic personality disorders: cluster c personality disorders - highly anxious and inhibited behaviour patterns. Include avoidant, dependant, and obsessive-compulsive personality disorders. Wild card category - personality disorder not otherwise speci ed. Involved erratic uctuations between intense emotional states. Mood swings (all good to all bad within seconds) Have great dif culty maintaining long-term social relationships.
