In north american infants tend to die from medical conditions linked to birth defects or low birth weight. After a year old they mostly die due to accidents. 36% of adolescents death are from car accidents. Gun shots and suicide are high among teen deaths as well. Neuron development occurs 10 weeks after conception and continues at about 4000 neuron/sec. Neurons form in the 4th month after conception. Growth spurts at 1 month intervals until 5 then at 8, 12 and 20 months and again at age 4, 6-8 years, 10-12 years, 13-15, 17. Growth spurts are localized and thus represents different areas of development. 6-8 years fine motor skills; logic, planning and memory. 13 15 spatial perception, motor functions, reorganization of the brain , pruning of synapses, executive processing, self regulation, control and organize thoughts. 17 years to early adulthood logic and planning (frontal lobe) Pruning usually follows growth spurts about 40% of synapses pruned.
