Ranks third behind soybean and canola in amount of oil produced per year by an annual eld crop. 12-14% of world oil is sun ower oil. Later grown for food and medicinal uses. The worlds largest sun ower oil producers are ukraine, russia, and argentina. The kernel is 50% oil and 20% protein. Striped seed, thick hull that is loosely attached to kernel. Huge receptacles with a bunch of owers. There are discloets which producee the keens ( seeds ) The highest moisture content would be in the middle. More mature on the end, less mature on the inside. Now have early maturing, short stature sun ower. Seeding early as long season and fairly resistant to frost. Temperature should be about 10 degrees for quick germination. If you grow them to close they will get to heavy and lodge.
