Horticulture- 1st farmers, farming with hand tools, less full scale, not dependent on farming. Slash & burn- clear unfertile area, burning process nitrates into soil. Reliance on fewer resources- farming has little food rather than balanced diet from hunter & gathering. Eating more cereal-led to cavities not always healthy-the move toward farming lifestyle. More time consuming-than hunting & gathering, farmers work more. Sedentary lifestyle- living in same place poor living conditions (i. e. garbage piled up, disease spreads) 2 basic interpretations at opposite end of spectrum. Environment- improved, ice age populations rise & people seek out specific plant food- make sure favourites survive & produce more, domesticated plant & became agriculturalist. Culture- control nature, those who invented agriculture find new ways of thinking. Sees hunter & gatherer work with nature, agriculturalist control it. Pottery -gave other people to invent new things like pottery + metal working.
